MAIN THEME: SECURITY AND SOCIETY
EVOLVING CHALLENGES AND COMPREHENSIVE RESPONSES
The European Security Conference Initiative (ESCI), established in 2005, seeks to integrate and amend security knowledge and strategies for Europe and its neighbourhood. Open to the interested public, it aims at congregating experts from the international scene, the public sector, from research and academics, business and the media. ESCI 2008 will take place as a trans-disciplinary event, drawing its thematic thrust from the 7th EU Framework Programme (FP 7). ESCI’s thematic structure reflects main themes of security research within FP 7, focusing on societal vulnerabilities and resilience. Along with tangible results of scientific inquiry into main themes of EU-related security research (such as citizen security, security infrastructure, border security, security restoration in case of crisis, interconnectivity and interoperability in mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery) ESCI 2008 will also serve as a one-stop platform for security research coordination and structuring with a special view to trans-sectoral challenges and cross-cutting issues of comprehensive European security policy and research.
