School Labs – a key experience for pupils to choose their career as a scientist

Under the patronage of Hiltrud Breyer and Dr. Helga Trüpel, both Members of the European Parliament, the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres will present their School Labs (see attached photos) with exciting educational experiments in the European Parliament in Brussels.

During the week of 19 - 23 March 2007, you can find answers to questions like:

Can water be stacked?

How can we become weightless?

During this week several other events will take place:

→Opening Ceremony: What? How? Why? Come on, and give it a try!

Hiltrud Breyer MEP, Dr. Helga Trüpel MEP and the President of the Helmholtz Association, Professor Jürgen Mlynek, cordially invite you and your family to the opening ceremony of the hands-on School Lab Exhibition, which will take place on

Tuesday 20 March 2007, 6 pm, European Parliament in Brussels

Speakers from the European Commission and other European research institutions and the press are invited.

→Workshops: Science for Kids - Kids for Science

Four workshops with the following themes will take place on Wednesday 21 March 2007 in Brussels (exact location will be confirmed later)

• Research centres as learning places for highly gifted youngsters
• Can school labs be integrated as authentic places of learning in the European school landscape?
• Internet platforms, how to get involved; science education material for the general public, CDs, games etc.
• EU Projects within and outside the 7th Framework Programme; development of projects and partnerships
